Hi, and welcome to my website barryjonesjazz.com - "where bebop lives..."

My love of music all started with the "Glee Club" at a grade school in Brooklyn, ny, from there I choose the tenor saxophone at or around  9 years old.

Considered a child prodigy, at the age of 11 I was advised to change schools to better meet my needs and transferred to a school that offered the IGC ("Intellectually Gifted Children") course.  AT this new school however, there were no woodwind instruments, so I choose the trumpet. Thus began my journey upon this brilliant, magnificent instrument.

A year later with my father's successful business, we moved to an upscaled home in Queens, where I continued to play trumpet and eventually gigged regularly with local disco bands as well as the stage jazz band in high school.

I graduated with a music scholarship from Five Towns College (Currently in Dix Hills, LI.), and studied privately with Allan Colin who's father is the legendary trumpet instructor Dr. Charles Colin. from here I began touring with 60's R&B Do-Wop sensation "The Cleftones" performing at high end posh clubs in the NYC tri-state area, as well as playing jazz in a quintet created by the students of FTC at local pubs in Long Island.

After graduating, I reluctantly turned down a trumpet scholarship with Elon university of North Carolina and pursued a career in Telecom working with a plethora of successful fortune 500 companies.

A serious illness forced me into early retirement and upon recovering, I decided to return to music.  I created and operated "Nibiru Sound Studios": a recording studio in Passaic, NJ where I produced a myriad of r&b, pop, and hip hop acts.  Eventually, I began to pick up my trumpet once again with renewed vigor.

While attending the famed "Jazz Mobile" workshop in Harlem, NY I met the bassist Robert Anderson through a friend, and he invited me to rehearse Bebop jazz at his home. What's currently uploaded here upon my website are the results of those jams.

I currently reside in Hackensack, NJ

Enjoy the Music,

Barry
